Senator (Dr.) Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates, stressing that voters must be allowed to freely determine electoral outcomes.
Umeh said the credibility of elections depended on the ability of Nigerians to express their choices without intimidation or suppression, urging the electoral umpire to ensure that every vote counted.
“Let there be a level playing field, and let INEC be determined to count the votes,” he said.
Speaking on the political standing of former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Umeh argued that Obi remained popular in Anambra State and across Nigeria, despite the political activities of the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
“Today, no matter what Soludo does, Peter Obi will continue to be more popular than him, both in Nigeria and in Anambra State,” he said.
On the 2023 presidential election, Umeh challenged the circumstances surrounding Obi’s third-place finish, insisting that the former presidential candidate had substantial support among Nigerians.
He maintained that the outcome of elections should be determined by voters rather than influenced by political interests, adding that citizens must be allowed to decide who governs them.

Umeh further stressed that political leaders should respect the people’s mandate, regardless of their preferred candidates or parties.
According to him, Nigerians should be given the opportunity to freely express their preferences at the ballot box, while INEC must demonstrate its commitment to transparent vote counting and credible elections.
