A total of 53 players from 12 states are competing for the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the 2026 Teqball World Championship as Abia State hosts the national championship in Aba.
The three-day competition, which began on October 29, will run until October 31 at the Aba Sports Club, with gold medallists in five categories expected to earn automatic qualification for the global tournament scheduled to hold in Budapest, Hungary, from December 1 to 6, 2026.
Chairman of the Rivers State Teqball Association, Mr Halim Zacah, disclosed that eight players would represent the state at the national competition under the team name, Rivers Whales.
Zacah said the Rivers contingent had arrived in Abia State ahead of the championship, expressing confidence that the players would deliver impressive performances.
He explained that the national championship would serve as the selection platform for Nigerian representatives at the forthcoming World Championship in Hungary.
According to him, gold medal winners in each of the five competition categories will secure places to represent the country at the international event.
“All gold medalists in the five categories will qualify to represent Nigeria in the World Championship,” he said.
