President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC on clinching the 2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, marking a historic ninth league triumph for the Enugu-based side.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the club’s players, management, and supporters for an outstanding season that saw Rangers finish top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of closest rivals, Rivers United.
Tinubu recalled Rangers’ dominance in Nigerian and African football during the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting notable achievements including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.
The President also commended Peter Mbah, attributing the club’s recent success to the state government’s sustained investment in youth development and sports infrastructure.
“As one of Nigeria’s oldest football institutions, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest talents who have made the country proud globally. I am proud of their achievement,” Tinubu stated.

He further applauded Rivers United for their strong performance throughout the season and their display of sportsmanship.
Tinubu wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
