Maiduguri, Nigeria — The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed the mission of the military operation to restore normalcy in the North-East and create an enabling environment for socio-economic activities.
Abubakar made this known while receiving the Bureau Chief of African Voices and Team Leader of the Italian Radio Television, Mr. Valerio Cataldi, alongside his delegation during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, noted that the Theatre Commander appreciated the visit and reiterated the military’s commitment to supporting professional and objective media coverage of its counter-terrorism operations.
The Theatre Commander emphasised the critical role of the media in countering misinformation and projecting accurate narratives about the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He highlighted successes recorded through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, including intelligence-driven operations and sustained disruption of terrorist logistics.
According to him, these efforts have enhanced the protection of vulnerable communities, facilitated the return of internally displaced persons to their homes, improved security for farming activities, and led to the recovery of weapons and surrender of several terrorist fighters and collaborators.
Abubakar also stressed that Operation Hadin Kai conducts its operations in strict adherence to International Humanitarian Law and the Armed Forces’ Rules of Engagement, with a strong focus on minimising civilian harm.
While acknowledging ongoing threats such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the increasing use of armed drones by insurgents, he maintained that security across the region has improved due to enhanced operational capabilities, specialised training, and collaboration with strategic partners.
Earlier, Cataldi expressed appreciation for the warm reception and detailed briefing, stating that the visit aimed to present an objective account of the sacrifices and achievements of Operation Hadin Kai to international audiences.

He added that the delegation would focus on human-interest stories, the impact of terrorism, and progress made by the Nigerian military through engagements with troops, affected communities, and rehabilitated former fighters.
The visit featured a comprehensive operational briefing, interactive session, signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
