Abuja, Nigeria — The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended two Nigerian women, Ugwechi Amadi and Prof. Oghenetega Ighedo, for their outstanding global achievements, describing their successes as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence on the international stage.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa said the accomplishments of the duo reflect the resilience, talent and intellectual strength of Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly women who continue to break barriers across diverse fields.

Ugwechi Amadi recently attained a major corporate milestone with her appointment as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at McDonald’s. An alumna of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Rhodes Scholar, and holder of a PhD from the University of Oxford, Amadi has built an impressive career, having previously held top positions at LIV Golf, Nike, and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
Similarly, Prof. Oghenetega Ighedo made history as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of South Africa (UNISA). Now an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the institution, she has distinguished herself through impactful academic research and mentorship, inspiring increased participation in mathematics and other STEM disciplines.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the achievements of both women highlight the importance of creating opportunities for young Nigerians, especially women and girls, to excel in leadership, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
She praised Amadi and Ighedo for serving as role models, emphasizing that their success stories reinforce the need to nurture talent and support innovation among Nigerians globally.
