Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North West have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and at least 21 other victims in coordinated operations.
The successful interventions were carried out on July 28, 2026, following distress calls from residents in different parts of the state. In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, terrorists reportedly stormed the residence of Dr. Yusuf in the early hours of the day, killing a private security guard and injuring another resident while attempting to abduct the rector and his family.
Troops responded swiftly to the attack at Tsohon-Tasha Street, engaging the assailants with superior firepower and forcing them to flee. The rector and his family were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation the same day, troops on night patrol intercepted another kidnap attempt in Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village. Despite difficult terrain that initially slowed their movement, the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, engaged them, and successfully foiled the abduction.
Simultaneously, security forces confronted another group of terrorists targeting a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria, in the same community. The attackers were repelled, leading to the rescue of the businessman and 21 other civilians abducted from nearby homes.
In a related development, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected informant, Falalu Yusuf, believed to have collaborated with the terrorists. He has since been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their vigilance, courage, and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, conveyed the commendation in a statement issued on July 28, 2026.
