The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation has partnered with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation to provide free eye screening services to its staff, in a move aimed at enhancing workforce productivity and overall well-being.
The initiative, held Thursday in Abuja, underscores the Federal Government’s growing emphasis on preventive healthcare for public servants, with a focus on early detection and treatment of vision-related conditions to improve service delivery.
Speaking at the event, Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Ali Ibrahim Dallah, who represented the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, described the programme as a strategic collaboration that aligns with government’s commitment to staff welfare under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP).
He stressed that good eyesight is critical for sound decision-making and efficient service delivery, urging staff to take advantage of the screening to address potential eye challenges early.
The outreach featured comprehensive eye examinations, vision tests and professional consultations, with participants requiring advanced care referred for specialised treatment.
In his remarks, General Manager of the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Mr. Anurag Misra, commended the high turnout of staff and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to improving healthcare access in Nigeria, particularly in eye care and WASH services.
He noted that the Foundation has conducted over 200,000 eye surgeries nationwide and continues to support communities through healthcare interventions, borehole projects and maternal and child health services.
Misra added that beneficiaries needing further diagnosis or treatment would be referred to the Foundation’s hospitals at subsidised rates.
