Professor Ishaq Akintola, founder of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has dedicated his Sultan Special Recognition Award to Muslims facing religious persecution in Nigeria, using the recognition to draw attention to concerns over the protection of religious rights in the country.
Akintola announced that he received the prestigious Sultan Special Recognition Award on November 2, 2026, expressing gratitude for the honour and describing the achievement as a moment of thanksgiving.
The MURIC founder, who made the announcement in a brief statement, said he was dedicating the award to Muslims who, according to him, continue to face religious persecution in different parts of Nigeria.
“I dedicate this award to all Muslims facing religious persecution in Nigeria,” he declared.
His dedication places the recognition beyond a personal achievement, drawing attention to the broader concerns surrounding religious freedom, the protection of worshippers and the rights of religious communities in the country.
The award also provides an opportunity to highlight the role of religious and rights advocacy organisations in raising concerns about religious discrimination, promoting the protection of fundamental rights and encouraging peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of different faiths.
