The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry, Lagos State, has set a target of tripling its votes in the 2027 general elections, urging party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the federation.
The party leaders made the commitment on Thursday during the inauguration of the Badagry Federation Campaign Structure at Sunny Ajose Estate, Badagry.
The APC Vice Director-General, West 2, Campaign Council, Mr Fatai Ayoola, said Badagry was among the best-performing local government areas in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, urging members to improve on the previous performance.
Ayoola attributed the emergence of one of the federation’s daughters, Mrs Damilola James, as the deputy governorship candidate in the forthcoming elections to the area’s political contributions.
He challenged party members, both young and old, to come out in large numbers on election day and triple the votes recorded in 2023.
“Let us maintain our position as the best-performing LGA in Lagos State again, and who knows, maybe the next governorship candidate may emerge from our federation,” he said.
Ayoola disclosed that about 300,000 people from Badagry had registered for the electoral process, expressing confidence in the federation’s capacity to deliver the expected votes.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, said the newly inaugurated campaign structure would ensure effective mobilisation across communities in Badagry.
He explained that the grassroots approach would coordinate efforts towards securing electoral support for APC candidates contesting the presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.
Ogunlende urged party members to work collectively, describing continuity in government and the delivery of democratic dividends as the central message of the campaign.
The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, said the federation was prepared for the elections and would work towards delivering the party’s candidates.
He said the emergence of James as deputy governorship candidate had further motivated party members to demonstrate their support through votes.
Hunpe, however, said the party’s expected victory should translate into improved infrastructure, human capital development and economic growth for Badagry residents.
Similarly, the Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Ajose Kumayon, appreciated the state and federal governments for giving one of Badagry’s daughters the opportunity to contest as deputy governor.
He said the federation would demonstrate its appreciation through support for APC candidates at the polls.
Kumayon expressed optimism that the expected electoral outcome would create opportunities for infrastructure expansion, human capacity development and increased economic activities in the area.
The Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Mr Rauf Yemaren, attributed the party’s confidence to the unity among political leaders and members across the federation.
