Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has described the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirming former Senate President David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress as a landmark victory for Nigeria’s democracy and the rule of law.
In a reaction shortly after the apex court’s decision, Abaribe said the ruling transcends internal party leadership disputes, stressing that it reinforces judicial independence and strengthens democratic institutions at a time when public trust in governance structures remains under scrutiny.
He described the verdict as “a victory for Nigeria and democracy,” noting that the stability of political parties is central to credible elections and democratic consolidation, particularly as the country builds momentum toward the 2027 general elections.
The Abia South lawmaker commended the judiciary for what he called a courageous and principled decision, adding that such rulings are essential in safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s multiparty democracy. He warned that weakening internal party cohesion could undermine broader national political stability.
However, Abaribe cautioned stakeholders against complacency, urging members of the ADC and Nigerians at large to view the judgment not as an endpoint but as a renewed call for commitment to good governance, accountability, and national development.
“This is not just about one party or one office,” he said. “It is about the future of our democracy and the kind of nation we are determined to build.”
He further called on all factions within the ADC to embrace reconciliation and rally behind David Mark’s leadership in the interest of unity, arguing that internal cohesion is vital for the party to emerge as a credible force in Nigeria’s political space.

Abaribe also urged citizens to remain actively engaged in democratic processes, emphasizing that sustained public participation and vigilance are necessary to protect and deepen democratic gains.
