The Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has dismissed recent social media reports alleging poor feeding of troops, describing the claims as misleading and not reflective of realities within the theatre of operations.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, the command said a detailed internal review found that the images and narratives circulating online did not accurately represent the feeding arrangements or welfare standards of troops deployed across the North East.
The command clarified that all personnel under Operation HADIN KAI are provided with rations in line with approved military feeding scales, adding that provisions are consistently maintained and even enhanced during festive periods such as Sallah and Easter to boost morale.
According to the statement, the feeding system within the theatre is structured and transparent, managed through Food Committees made up of personnel across different ranks and supervised by senior non-commissioned officers. This system, it noted, ensures accountability and active participation in meal planning, preparation, and distribution within available logistical resources.
The review, however, uncovered a specific case involving a personnel who circulated a misleading image of a partially consumed meal to create a false impression of inadequate feeding. Investigations confirmed that the image did not reflect the full ration issued.
The command disclosed that the individual involved has been sanctioned in accordance with the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004), stressing that disciplinary measures were necessary to uphold military standards and institutional integrity.
Reaffirming its commitment to troop welfare, the Theatre Command acknowledged the logistical and environmental challenges of operating in the North East but maintained that consistent efforts are made to ensure adequate care for personnel.
It also urged troops to channel grievances through established internal mechanisms rather than actions capable of undermining morale or misrepresenting operational realities. Members of the public were advised to disregard unverified social media content and rely on credible, official sources of information.
The command emphasised that the spread of misinformation could undermine ongoing military operations and national security efforts, reiterating that Operation HADIN KAI remains focused on restoring peace, security, and economic stability in the North East, with discipline and welfare of personnel as top priorities.
