The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, of evading critical allegations concerning religious bias, identity, and governance, intensifying tensions ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.
In a press statement issued on Monday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, alleged that the governor failed to adequately respond to serious concerns raised by the group, particularly claims of lopsided political appointments and questions surrounding his religious identity.
MURIC criticized the Osun State Government’s swift rejoinder, delivered through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, describing it as incomplete and evasive. While the government reportedly listed some Muslim appointees, the group noted that it failed to provide a comprehensive breakdown of appointments by religion.
“The crux of the matter remains unanswered,” Akintola stated. “MURIC presented specific figures—17 Christian commissioners to seven Muslims. The government has not disputed these numbers nor provided its own.”
The group further challenged Governor Adeleke to publish a full list of commissioners, as well as heads of boards and parastatals, to ensure transparency and address allegations of marginalisation.
Beyond appointments, MURIC accused the governor of maintaining a “double religious identity,” claiming his actions amounted to a mockery of Islam. The group also referenced allegations of financial impropriety, noting that the government’s response did not address these claims.
Akintola argued that the omission signaled tacit admission. “Silence on these grave allegations suggests acquiescence,” he said.
Describing religion as a sensitive issue, MURIC warned that the controversy has extended beyond Osun State, resonating with Muslims nationwide. The group stressed that perceived disrespect toward Islam could provoke widespread discontent.
MURIC also dismissed claims that it was acting on behalf of any political party, insisting that its advocacy is rooted in protecting Muslim rights irrespective of political affiliations.

In a strongly worded conclusion, the group declared that Governor Adeleke is “in the people’s court,” setting August 15, 2026, as a symbolic “day of reckoning.”
