The Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU) and the Olubunmi Alao Foundation (OAF) have marked the 2026 Children’s Day by empowering more than 100 children in Surulere, Lagos, with educational support and talent development initiatives.
The event, held at Adeniji Primary School on May 27, brought together pupils from various schools and community-based organisations, including Obele Primary School, Dolly Children Foundation and Destiny Trust Foundation, for a day of learning, recreation and creative expression.
Organisers said the celebration was designed not just as a festivity but as a deliberate intervention to promote education, boost self-confidence and nurture the talents of children, particularly those from underserved communities.
Officials of both foundations emphasised that investing in children remains a critical pathway to national development, noting that the initiative sought to encourage creativity, social inclusion and academic excellence among participants.
Activities at the event included spelling bee competitions, music and dance performances, as well as interactive sessions that allowed children to showcase their talents. Many of the participants impressed guests with outstanding performances, drawing commendation from parents, teachers and community leaders in attendance.
A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of educational materials, including books and backpacks, to all participating children. The organisers said the gesture was aimed at supporting learning and motivating the pupils to excel academically.
They further stressed the need for stronger collaboration among non-governmental organisations, schools, communities and development partners to improve child welfare and expand access to quality education.

According to the foundations, sustainable investment in children is essential to building a more inclusive and prosperous society, urging government agencies, private sector players and well-meaning Nigerians to support initiatives that prioritise children’s education and protection.
The event concluded with games and recreational activities, leaving the children with memorable experiences and renewed enthusiasm for learning.
