Dr. Samuel Ajose, founder of the SMA Movement and former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Lagos State, has handed over a newly constructed ultra-modern Agbalata Market building to the Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe.
The handover ceremony, held on Saturday, marked a significant milestone in efforts to improve infrastructure and boost commercial activities in Badagry.
Speaking at the event, Ajose explained that the project was initiated in response to appeals from market men and women who lacked adequate shelter from harsh weather conditions. According to him, an on-the-spot assessment revealed the need for a befitting structure that would serve both administrative and commercial purposes.
“I discovered that beyond roofing, what the traders truly needed was a proper building to accommodate market officials and provide a conducive environment for business activities,” Ajose said.
He described Agbalata Market as one of the oldest and most historically significant markets in Lagos State, noting that it had played a vital role in supporting the educational advancement of many individuals in the past.
Ajose added that the new facility would not only provide relief for traders during rainfall and extreme heat but also elevate the market’s status to an international standard. He urged beneficiaries to ensure proper use and maintenance of the building.
In his response, Hunpe commended Ajose for his consistent contributions to community development, describing the project as a demonstration of true leadership beyond political ambition.
“Dr. Ajose’s interventions have positively impacted lives and strengthened socio-economic development in Badagry. This new market office is yet another testament to his passion for service,” Hunpe said.
He assured that the facility would be effectively utilized to enhance coordination, administrative efficiency, and smooth market operations. The chairman also pledged that offices within the building would be allocated to relevant stakeholders to promote harmony and productivity.
Hunpe further noted that Ajose’s contributions have elevated Badagry’s profile within Lagos State, reinforcing its importance in the state’s political and economic landscape.
Also speaking, Chief Todowade Abel, the Baba-Oja of Ajara-Agamathen, expressed gratitude to Ajose for transforming the previously modest office space into a modern structure.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official naming of the building as the Prophet Abraham Ajose Building, in honour of Ajose’s late father.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is expected to significantly improve market operations and provide a more conducive environment for traders in the historic Agbalata Market.
