Abuja, Nigeria — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has raised alarm over a fraudulent message circulating online, falsely offering employment into the Nigerian Diplomatic Service and targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Ministry categorically disassociated itself from the message, describing it as fake, misleading, and the handiwork of unscrupulous elements seeking to defraud citizens.
The fraudulent communication reportedly claims that applicants have been shortlisted for diplomatic appointments under the Consular Section of Nigerian embassies abroad. It further directs recipients to make payments for the processing of a so-called “credence note.”
Debunking the claims, the Ministry clarified that Nigerian missions abroad are not currently recruiting and stressed that it does not conduct any recruitment through unofficial channels such as emails, WhatsApp messages, or unsolicited contact.
It further emphasized that no fees are required at any stage of recruitment or diplomatic postings, noting that legitimate employment into the Foreign Service is handled exclusively through the Federal Civil Service Commission via official government processes.
The statement also warned that the inclusion of references to clearance by the Department of State Services, as well as the attribution to the Ministry’s spokesperson, was a deliberate attempt to lend credibility to the scam and deceive the public.

The Ministry urged citizens to disregard such messages entirely and advised anyone approached for payment under the guise of securing diplomatic employment to report immediately to security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and integrity, the Ministry encouraged the public to verify information through its official communication channels and remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes.
