AWKA, Anambra — A total of 2,300 prospective corps members were officially sworn in for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation programme in Anambra State. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Friday at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area.
The State Coordinator of the NYSC in Anambra, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that the new intake consists of 1,080 males and 1,220 females. She emphasized that all camp facilities and logistics had been set up to ensure the smooth execution of the orientation course, which is a critical phase in the corps members’ year-long national service.
“The orientation course is the foundation of the one-year national service. It is designed to instil discipline, patriotism, teamwork, and other competencies required for nation-building,” Mrs. Ojisua said. “Through military drills, physical training, and sports, corps members will enhance their physical fitness, mental alertness, and team spirit,” she added.
The coordinator also highlighted the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which aims to equip corps members with practical skills to ensure self-reliance after their service year.
Mrs. Ojisua congratulated the corps members on their deployment to Anambra and urged them to abide by the NYSC rules and security guidelines throughout the orientation. She further encouraged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of their families and institutions.
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Mr. Ifeatu Emeodi, also addressed the gathering, encouraging the corps members to offer dedicated service to both Anambra State and Nigeria. He praised the efforts of the NYSC leadership, especially Mrs. Ojisua and her team, for their professionalism and dedication to the programme.
Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading the State Orientation Camp’s facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for the corps members.

The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by the State Chief Judge, Justice O. M. Anyachebelu, represented by Justice A. O. Nwabunike.
The three-week orientation programme is set to empower the corps members with skills and experiences that will aid their personal growth while contributing to the development of the nation.
