A civil society group, Osun Youths Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG), has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s endorsement of the re-election bids of Nigerian senators ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Friday by its convener, Dr. Adeyemi Akande, OYIGG lauded President Tinubu for his commitment to fostering democratic progress in the country. The group praised the president’s understanding of the political landscape and his emphasis on working with responsible and capable leadership.
“We are delighted that Mr. President understands politics and recognizes the need for responsible, capable hands to collaborate with. This current Senate is the most capable assembly,” the statement read.
The commendation follows a meeting between President Tinubu and Senate delegations on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, where the president reaffirmed his stance that the senators deserve the “right of first refusal” to contest for re-election in 2027.

During the meeting, Tinubu commended the Senate leadership and distinguished senators for their support and cooperation, emphasizing their vital role in achieving the administration’s goals. The discussions also revolved around ongoing national issues and constructive dialogue aimed at ensuring continued progress.
This endorsement signals a significant political move as the 2027 general elections draw closer, with a clear indication that the president is keen on retaining experienced lawmakers in the Senate.
