ABUJA — The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced plans to honour distinguished institutions and individuals for their contributions to global peace at its 2026 international conference, as stakeholders gather to confront the growing threat of information warfare to global security and investment.
The high-level summit, themed “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media,” will hold on May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the conference comes at a critical time when the manipulation of information is increasingly being deployed as a strategic tool capable of destabilising economies and undermining investor confidence.
According to him, the integrity of information has become central to international commerce, warning that Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) poses far-reaching consequences beyond politics.
“When FIMI is allowed to thrive, it doesn’t just create political instability; it erodes investor confidence, disrupts supply chains, and devalues national assets,” he said.
“This conference is a call for a ‘Collaborative Truth’ to safeguard the global trade and investment landscape.”
The summit is expected to attract top diplomats, including ambassadors of the United States, China, and the European Union, alongside representatives from over 100 diplomatic missions, highlighting the global urgency of addressing disinformation in an era of rising geopolitical tensions.
Participants drawn from the intelligence community, media, and trade sectors will explore strategies to counter disinformation and strengthen cooperation in protecting global markets from digital and hybrid threats.
The event will also feature an awards ceremony recognising peacebuilders whose efforts have contributed significantly to global stability, setting the tone for broader discussions on diplomacy and international cooperation.
