A devastating tanker explosion on Monday morning has killed several people and left the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass in chaos.
The incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. near Rochas Foundation School, was reportedly triggered by a collision involving two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-loaded Golf cars. Eyewitnesses said the impact sparked five powerful explosions, engulfing the vehicles in flames and sending thick plumes of smoke billowing over the highway.
“All the occupants of the cars died instantly, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” eyewitness Abubakar told City Post.

Emergency responders and security operatives swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area as rescue and recovery operations got underway. Motorists were advised to avoid the route and use alternatives.
Attempts to obtain an official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful. However, a police source confirmed that officers from the Zaria Police Area Command were leading operations on the ground.
