Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Magumeri, Borno State, neutralising several insurgents and recovering a cache of weapons.
The attempted assault occurred in the early hours of Friday when the terrorists tried to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Magumeri under the cover of poor visibility. Despite recording minor breaches in an isolated section of the camp, the troops responded with decisive force, containing and defeating the attackers.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force, confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties during the failed operation. According to the statement, subsequent exploitation of the area revealed extensive blood trails, body drags, and the recovery of several terrorist corpses.
Troops also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing insurgents, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, and magazines.
However, the military disclosed that two soldiers lost their lives during the fierce engagement, while an officer and other injured personnel are currently stable and receiving medical treatment.
The statement further noted that some military equipment and temporary structures were damaged by fire during the intense exchange of gunfire.

Troops have since intensified exploitation operations in the area to consolidate gains and assess the full extent of damage inflicted on the terrorists.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery and resilience, urging them to sustain the ongoing operational momentum in the fight against insurgency in the North East.
