The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade to redouble their efforts in tackling terrorism and other security threats in Southern Kaduna and surrounding areas.
Oluyede gave the charge during an operational visit to the Brigade headquarters in Samaru Kataf, Kaduna State, where he assessed the formation’s combat readiness and operational challenges.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the visit was aimed at evaluating the Brigade’s preparedness and identifying gaps to enhance ongoing efforts against terrorism, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and related crimes.
Addressing the troops, the CDS commended their alertness and professionalism but urged them to remain committed and proactive in the face of evolving threats. He emphasised the need for innovation and strategic thinking in countering criminal elements.
“You must keep outwitting criminals by anticipating their actions and evolving effective countermeasures,” Oluyede said, assuring the troops of continued support in terms of equipment, operational platforms, and welfare.
Earlier, the Brigade Commander, Captain (NN) OJ Ekuma, highlighted key operational successes, including the neutralisation of criminals, recovery of weapons and rustled livestock, rescue of kidnapped victims, and arrest of high-profile bandits and their collaborators.
He added that the Brigade had significantly disrupted the movement of criminal elements within its Joint Operations Area, contributing to improved security since its establishment in 2024.

As part of the visit, the CDS inspected ongoing Defence Headquarters projects and military deployments, and directed the provision of critical equipment to address operational gaps.
The visit, which included senior military officials such as Major General JH Abdussalam and Major General EF Oyinlola, underscores the Armed Forces’ commitment to strengthening operational efficiency and enhancing troop welfare in the fight against insecurity.
