Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project, as part of efforts to boost food security and sustainable development.
The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, gave the assurance during a strategic meeting with a delegation from the World Bank in Abuja.
The minister said the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in advancing agricultural productivity and improving access to sustainable power.
Utsev, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Emanso Umobong, received the World Bank team led by Zacharias Ziegelhofer. Other members of the delegation included Parvin and Chinedu Umolu.
A statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, said the meeting focused on reviewing progress made under the SPIN Project and identifying strategies to fast-track its implementation across participating states.
Key discussions also centred on strengthening institutional coordination, improving procurement processes, and enhancing overall project delivery.
The meeting brought together top technical officials of the ministry, including the Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations, Engr. Ali Ibrahim Dallah; Director of Irrigation and Drainage, Engr. Oyeronke Oluniyi; and Director of River Basin Operations and Inspectorate, Engr. Christy Oduh. Representatives from the Ministry of Power and the National Coordinator of the SPIN Project, Ipinlaye Olaiya, were also in attendance.

Stakeholders at the meeting stressed the need for capacity building, improved technical readiness, and operational efficiency to ensure timely execution of the project.
The SPIN Project is expected to play a critical role in enhancing irrigation infrastructure, increasing agricultural output, and supporting Nigeria’s drive toward energy sufficiency.
