Malabo, July 12, 2026 — Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Equatorial Guinea has received a significant boost as the newly appointed Ambassador-designate, Her Excellency Mrs. Yvonne Odumah, arrived in Malabo to officially assume duty.
Mrs. Odumah’s arrival on Saturday marks the beginning of a new phase in Nigeria’s bilateral relations with the Central African nation, with expectations of strengthened cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, security, and regional integration.
The envoy was accorded a warm and ceremonial reception at the Malabo International Airport by a high-level delegation comprising officials of the Nigerian Embassy, representatives of the Equatorial Guinean government, the Deputy Chief of Protocol, Heads of Bureaus, and members of the Nigerian community in the country.
Her deployment is part of a broader diplomatic initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, on March 6, 2026, approved the appointment of 65 heads of mission across the globe. The strategic postings include 34 career diplomats and 31 non-career political appointees, reflecting the administration’s effort to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy and global presence.
As Ambassador-designate, Mrs. Odumah is expected to play a pivotal role in deepening diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, fostering economic partnerships, and promoting the welfare of Nigerians living in the host country.
