Nigeria and Mali have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a strong focus on security cooperation and diplomatic engagement, as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mali, Ambassador Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, presented copies of his Letters of Credence.
The presentation was made to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Bamako, marking a significant step in advancing diplomatic relations between both countries.
Following the formal protocol, both officials held bilateral discussions aimed at boosting cooperation in key areas of mutual interest. Central to the talks was the need to reinvigorate diplomatic consultation mechanisms to promote a more productive and mutually beneficial South-South cooperation framework.

The discussions also focused on the evolving geopolitical situation in the West African sub-region, with particular attention on security challenges, especially the fight against terrorism. Both sides emphasized the urgency of strengthening regional solidarity, fostering constructive political dialogue, and building mutual trust among nations to effectively tackle shared threats.
The meeting underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to enhancing regional stability and collaboration through strategic diplomatic engagement.
