The Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olaka Nwogu, on his decisive victory in the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election.
Nwogu was declared winner of the Saturday poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, after securing 47,961 votes to defeat his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 1,647 votes.
The statement was signed by Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Media Adviser to the Senate Minority Leader, and dated June 23, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of the minority caucus of the Senate, Moro described the outcome as a reflection of the growing popularity and acceptance of the PDP among the electorate.
He attributed the landslide victory to the resilience of the party and the leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, whom he described as instrumental in repositioning the PDP for electoral success.
According to Moro, Wike’s influence and strategic leadership are restoring the PDP’s winning momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
