FMITI, BPE Partners to Drive Nigeria’s Industrial Growth

By Fatima Saka

The Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (FMITI), Senator John Owan Enoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving sustainable industrial growth.

This declaration followed a high-level briefing by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) on Tuesday.

This development was disclosed in a press statement issued on Wednesday by Diana-Mary Nsan, Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of State for Industry, FMITI.

The meeting underscored the pivotal role of privatization and reform in revitalizing Nigeria’s industrial and manufacturing sectors. Senator Enoh emphasized the importance of aligning BPE’s privatization objectives with FMITI’s vision of enhancing industrial productivity and fostering economic diversification. The Ministry aims to ensure that privatized entities operate efficiently, contributing significantly to job creation, value addition, and overall economic growth.

Key discussions highlighted the challenges facing critical sectors such as sugar and automotive manufacturing, which currently operate below capacity. To address these challenges, FMITI and BPE plan to collaborate on removing growth barriers, promoting backward integration, and encouraging local production.

The Minister also acknowledged BPE’s role in driving reforms and stressed the importance of workforce training and skill development. Through strategic partnerships with key stakeholders like the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), FMITI intends to enhance human capital development to meet the evolving demands of modern industries.

The briefing further emphasized the need for robust oversight mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the performance of privatized entities. This approach aims to ensure accountability, foster transparency, and drive the realization of Nigeria’s industrialization goals.

Expressing optimism about the collaboration, Senator Enoh highlighted the potential synergies between FMITI and BPE. He stressed that a shared vision and coordinated efforts would position Nigeria as a global industrial leader. These initiatives align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a creative and self-reliant economy.

This renewed partnership marks a significant milestone in transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape and ensuring sustainable economic development for the benefit of all citizens.
