Nigeria and Switzerland have renewed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation in trade, investment and development.
The commitment followed the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Switzerland, Wahab A. Akande, to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, at the Federal Palace in Bern on September 8, 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, on Friday, adding that Akande conveyed the warm greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Parmelin during the ceremony.
Akande expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Swiss authorities to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, development cooperation, culture, education and innovation.
He underscored the need to expand economic and development cooperation between both countries, while exploring new opportunities for stronger institutional, commercial and people-to-people partnerships.
The ambassador also highlighted the Nigeria-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations as an important framework for regular diplomatic engagement, noting that it provides a platform for reviewing bilateral relations, advancing shared interests and identifying new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Akande reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to constructive dialogue and closer collaboration with Switzerland on issues of common interest.

He expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further deepening the cordial relations between the two countries and strengthening their longstanding partnership.
The ceremony, according to the ministry, underscored Nigeria’s continued commitment to fostering a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with the Swiss Confederation.
