The Nigerian Army has undertaken a major restructuring of its leadership, aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and enhancing national security across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the strategic redeployment of senior officers across key operational, command, training and administrative positions. The move, according to the Army, is part of ongoing efforts to boost readiness and address evolving security challenges nationwide.
Prominent among the changes is the appointment of Major General WM Dangana as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola. Similarly, Major General EI Okoro has been named GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, taking over from Major General EE Emeka.
In other key postings, Major General JR Lar assumes duty as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola has been appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff to the COAS.
To further strengthen field operations, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been deployed as Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brigadier General K Rabiu takes charge of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade. In a move reflecting the Army’s growing focus on modern warfare, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
Additionally, Major General O Adegbe has been named Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters, reinforcing intelligence coordination at the strategic level.
The reshuffle also covers training and institutional leadership, with Major General KE Chigbu appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College. Major General SD Makolo now heads the Nigerian Army Armour School, while Major General SO Adejimi leads the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport. Major General FS Etim has been appointed Chief of Training at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
Brigadier General U Ahmad has also been posted as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
In the administrative and corporate sector, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison becomes Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through professionalism, innovation and dedication to duty. He emphasised the Army’s constitutional mandate to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty, safeguard territorial integrity and support civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to transformation, stating that the leadership changes are part of broader efforts to build a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of addressing both current and emerging security threats.
