The ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-East have recorded a significant breakthrough as two high-profile terrorist commanders surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI, providing critical intelligence expected to boost ongoing military offensives.
According to a press release issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the commanders, identified as senior figures within the terrorist leadership structure, surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026. They were subsequently transported to Maiduguri, arriving at about 7:30 p.m. on June 5, and are currently in military custody.
The military disclosed that the surrendered commanders are undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation to extract actionable information that could aid ongoing operations in the region.
Preliminary findings from their interrogation indicate that the individuals held influential positions within the group and possess extensive knowledge of its operational strategies, command hierarchy, and logistics networks.
“The initial intelligence obtained has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms, and support structures,” the statement noted, adding that the information would significantly enhance intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves.
The development is seen as a major setback for the insurgents and underscores the effectiveness of sustained military offensives by Operation HADIN KAI, supported by coordinated land and air operations, as well as improved intelligence gathering.
Military authorities noted that persistent pressure from troops has continued to degrade the terrorists’ combat capabilities, restrict their movement, and weaken their command and control systems, forcing many fighters and leaders to abandon the insurgency.
The surrender, the statement added, highlights the growing disintegration within the terrorist ranks and reflects the cumulative impact of ongoing operations across the theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the current momentum, intensifying offensives, and leveraging intelligence to eliminate remaining threats in the region.
