Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued seven kidnapped victims and foiled coordinated abduction attempts in Katsina and Zamfara States, in a sustained offensive against terrorism and banditry in the region.
The military disclosed that the successful operations, conducted on June 16, 2026, were part of ongoing counter-terrorism and search-and-rescue missions aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across the North-West.
This disclosed in press statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
In Katsina State, troops under Operation CLEAN SWEEP 3 intensified assaults on terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area. The operation targeted a known hideout in Fafu Village, following recent gains, including the rescue of the spouse of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.
According to the military, the terrorists fled their camp under heavy gunfire, abandoning kidnapped victims. Troops subsequently cleared the hideout and rescued four victims, who are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during captivity.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Zurmi town, Zurmi Local Government Area. Acting on a distress call, security forces swiftly mobilised and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
“The terrorists, unable to withstand the overwhelming firepower of the troops, abandoned their mission and fled,” the statement said.
During follow-up clearance operations, three abducted persons were rescued and safely reunited with their families.

The military said the operations underscore the resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect lives and property, stressing that troops remain committed to sustaining pressure on terrorist and bandit groups.
“Troops will continue offensive operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the full restoration of peace and normalcy in affected communities,” the statement added.
