Lagos, Nigeria — Evon Labs has launched HealthX Catalyst, a 12-week structured incubation programme designed to transform early-stage health-tech ideas into scalable, investment-ready ventures, addressing a critical gap in Africa’s healthcare innovation ecosystem.
The initiative, which is already nearing completion for its inaugural cohort of 12 founders, aims to tackle longstanding barriers such as limited access to mentorship, weak startup development frameworks, and inadequate funding pathways that have hindered many promising health-tech solutions across the continent.
Speaking on the programme, Founder of Evon Labs, Isioma Udeozo, said the launch responds directly to the infrastructure deficit facing healthcare innovators in Africa.
“Africa does not have a shortage of healthcare innovators. What it has lacked is the infrastructure to turn its ideas into sustainable businesses,” she said. “HealthX Catalyst is designed to move founders beyond ideas into building scalable, impactful companies.”
Participants in the programme undergo intensive training, receiving both group and personalised mentorship from experts across healthcare, technology, and business sectors. The incubation also includes support in refining business models, validating market opportunities, and developing strong value propositions.
In addition, founders gain access to a network of healthcare practitioners, industry leaders, and potential investors, alongside tailored investment-readiness support aimed at positioning them for post-programme growth.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), reflecting its alignment with broader goals of strengthening health systems, promoting innovation, and advancing economic inclusion across Africa.
Other partners include Odua Investment Company Limited (OICL), Washington University in St. Louis, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), and Brooks Insights.
The inaugural cohort will culminate in a Demo Day scheduled for June 24, 2026, at the UNDP Innovation Centre in Lagos, where participating startups will present their solutions to investors, healthcare stakeholders, and development organisations.
Top-performing startups will receive monetary grants to support product development, pilot testing, and early-stage scaling.
