President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, as the new Minister of State for Finance, in a move seen as reinforcing the administration’s economic reform agenda.
The nomination, which was conveyed to the Senate on Tuesday, seeks to replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite in the Finance Ministry, as part of a fresh cabinet reshuffle aimed at repositioning key economic portfolios.
In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu formally requested the Senate’s confirmation of Oyedele. The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, dated March 3, 2026.
Under the new arrangement, Dr. Uzoka-Anite will move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State — marking her third ministerial portfolio under the Tinubu administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele, a native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.
Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert with over two decades of professional experience. He began his career at PwC in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader during his 22-year tenure at the global professional services firm.
An alumnus of Yaba College of Technology, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He further completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Beyond his corporate and policy roles, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
His nomination is expected to face Senate screening in the coming days, with economic stakeholders closely watching how his fiscal reform experience could shape Nigeria’s financial management framework if confirmed.
