Abuja — The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed Nigeria’s leadership in regional security and diplomacy as it hosted a high-level delegation from Burundi’s Senior Command and Staff College on a strategic study tour.
The visit, held on Wednesday, underscored deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Burundi, with a focus on strengthening regional partnerships, enhancing security collaboration, and promoting African solidarity.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Policy, Research and Strategy, Ambassador Musa Sani Nuhu, reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy, regional integration, and peacebuilding across the continent. He emphasized the country’s pivotal role in advancing stability and economic development in Africa.
According to him, Nigeria remains actively engaged in regional security frameworks, particularly through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as well as in counter-terrorism operations under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
“The visit provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on diplomacy, regional security, and cross-border cooperation,” Nuhu said, noting that such engagements are critical to building collective responses to shared challenges.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the Burundi Senior Command and Staff College commended Nigeria’s leadership role in regional affairs and expressed appreciation for the warm reception. He noted that the knowledge gained during the tour would strengthen strategic capacity and foster stronger international partnerships among participants.

The Ministry described the visit as a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations and deepening mutual understanding between both countries, particularly in the areas of security cooperation and diplomatic collaboration.
