The North East Development Commission, has revealed plans to launch E-vehicles in order to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the impacts of fossil fuel in northeast Sahara region of Nigeria.
Added that this will help to reduce unemployment and transform the economy and security in the northeast environ’s.
The Chairman of North East Development Commission, Gen. Paul Tarfa revealed this on Thursday in Abuja during a press briefing, alongside with the newly appointed board members at the first board meeting this year.
Gen. Tarfa stated that It’s something new that is to come. “We are going to introduce it.”
He reiterated the project is completed upon completion of all arrangements.
“Difficulty in transportation will be a thing of the past, especially in the northeast zone, so many things are ongoing and we want to assure you and the public.
“That even the common life, suffering, unemployment, needs for employment, agriculture and so on.
“All are in the office by the commission as it is today. This meeting we have just completed has taken far-reaching decisions to promote our efforts.
“Things that the previous board embarked upon, none will be abandoned. And it is going to be a thing to see, not to hear.
“People will be free to go from Jalingo to Damaturu, from Yola to Gombe, from Bauchi to Maiduguri.”
Speaking on the IDP camps, the chairman of NEDC said that the commission has rehabilitated all the vulnerable across the States. “We have little or no more IDP centers.
Gen. Tarfa expressed that technically, in agriculture, in every other thing the commission has tried to reach out to the teeming crowd of youth in the zone. “As I said, gentlemen, it is not just a question of saying it, but doing it.
“And we also need your support to even go and see and let people know that we are not just by name0 that the Northeast Development Commission is there. Oh, what are they doing now?
‘They are doing something, and we are doing something, and we intend to continue with this until the last day. We have a pledge, and we have to do it.”
Responding to questions and answer, Mohammed Goni Alkali, Managing Director, North East Development Commission, NEDC, said that the Act establishing the Commission, is the first thing that they were supposed to do, was develop a master plan for the Commission. “We have already done that. We have a 10-year master plan.”
“This master plan covers all the things we must think of in development. And before we concluded the master plan, we made sure that it was a bottom-up approach. We have gone around all the 110 local governments, the Senatorial districts, the constituency, and so on and so forth to engage the stakeholders.
“And the document is now approved for implementation. And in that document, we have 11 pillars. Pillar number one has to do with fish building.
“How do we bring fish back to the region? We have a pillar on agriculture, education, health, entrepreneurial development, empowerment, industry, and so on and so forth.
“And we have already posted these pillars. Under the pillars, we have 529 programs and projects.”
