The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated its National Auditor and Assistant Director at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Jemila Abubakar, on her election as President of the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria.
The Association described Abubakar’s emergence as a well-deserved recognition of her years of exemplary service, professionalism, and dedication to peacebuilding, gender advocacy, and national development.
NAWOJ, in a statement signed by its National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, noted that WAANSA Nigeria plays a critical role as a coalition of civil society organisations committed to curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, preventing gun violence, addressing drug abuse, tackling gender-based violence, and promoting peace and security nationwide.
The Association expressed pride that one of its National Executive members has been entrusted with leading such a strategic organisation, adding that Abubakar’s experience, integrity, and leadership capacity would further strengthen WAANSA Nigeria’s advocacy and impact.
NAWOJ also commended its members for their solidarity and support during the WAANSA Nigeria General Assembly and election, noting that the presence of its delegation underscored the Association’s commitment to celebrating members’ achievements and fostering partnerships with organisations advancing peace, security, and sustainable development.
The Association wished Abubakar a successful and impactful tenure and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with WAANSA Nigeria in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development through responsible journalism and public enlightenment.
