The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has strongly condemned the sealing of the Falomo Mosque by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), describing the action as “outrageous, provocative, and insensitive,” particularly given its timing on the eve of Eid-el-Kabir prayers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, expressed alarm that the mosque was sealed just hours before Muslims are expected to gather for one of the most significant prayers in the Islamic calendar.
Akintola questioned the rationale behind the enforcement action, noting that the mosque is scheduled to host Eid prayers the following morning. He described the move as ill-timed and potentially capable of inflaming religious tensions in Lagos State.
“This is the height of insensitivity. Who is out to frustrate Lagos Muslims? Who is bent on stoking the fire of religious crisis in Lagos State? With less than 24 hours to Eid prayers, the timing is highly questionable,” the statement read.
MURIC insisted that all necessary documentation for the mosque’s construction had been duly secured, rejecting any justification for the agency’s action. The group called for the immediate removal of the seal to allow worshippers access to the facility.
The Islamic rights group also appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to urgently intervene in the matter to prevent disruption of religious activities and maintain peace.

As of the time of filing this report, LABSCA had not issued an official response explaining the reasons for sealing the mosque.
The development has sparked concern among Muslim faithful in Lagos, with fears that the situation could disrupt Eid-el-Kabir observances if not promptly resolved.
