A teenager rescued from severe abuse in Anambra State is set to start university education, marking a remarkable journey of recovery and transformation.
Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, disclosed that Master Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka, who was rescued in July 2022 from alleged abuse and neglect by his uncle and his wife, has successfully undergone rehabilitation and is now preparing for higher education.
Reflecting on his progress, Soludo said the teenager had remained under her care since his rescue, receiving medical treatment, educational support, and emotional guidance to rebuild his life.
She described his story as a powerful testament to resilience and hope.
“Four years ago, Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka’s story broke the hearts of many Anambra people. He was rescued from a life of severe abuse and neglect and arrived with wounds that went far beyond the physical,” she said.
“At the time, many saw a hurting child. Today, we see a resilient young man standing on the threshold of a brighter future.
“What once seemed like a story defined by pain has become a powerful testimony of healing, hope and transformation. Today, he is preparing to enter the university, and I am delighted to reaffirm my commitment to supporting his education to whatever level he chooses to attain,” she added.
Soludo noted that Chimkamnayo’s experience demonstrates that abuse and difficult circumstances do not have to define a child’s future. She emphasised that with proper care, protection, and support systems, children can recover from trauma and pursue their aspirations.
She also revealed that the teenager has expressed a desire to reunite with his parents, assuring that efforts would be made to grant his wish while prioritising his safety and welfare.

According to her, although he will reconnect with his family, he will continue to receive care and support from the Anambra State Government.
“His journey reminds us that when society refuses to give up on a child, that child can rise above adversity and become a symbol of hope for others,” she said.
