Leaders in Mopamuro Local Government Area have adopted Pastor Babagbemi Adejola, popularly known as GB Irorun, as the consensus aspirant for the House of Representatives seat in Yagba Federal Constituency, following an extensive stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja.
The decision, reached after over eight hours of deliberations, is seen as a strategic move to unify the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mopamuro ahead of the party’s 2026 primary election.
The meeting, described by participants as peaceful and productive, was convened to address longstanding agitations for Mopamuro to produce a representative in the House of Representatives by harmonising multiple aspirants into a single candidate.
A three-member committee chaired by Chief Salaudeen Ganiyu (Erukutu) supervised the consensus process, with Chief Olatunde David Dare and Engr. Kayode Adegbayo as members, while Hon. Bisi Ojuola served as secretary.
Prominent stakeholders who attended as observers included Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), Chief Ayo Abereoran, Chief Makinde Oyebode, Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloke, and Dr. Ayodele John (Delex), among others.
In a show of unity, other aspirants—Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Segun Ipinyomi (Rtd), Hon. Seun Ibigbemi, and Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi—stepped down and pledged their full support for Adejola. They also committed to jointly funding the purchase of his nomination form at the APC National Secretariat.
Speaking after the exercise, the committee chairman, Chief Ganiyu, urged Adejola to be magnanimous in victory and carry all stakeholders along, noting that the consensus arrangement reflected the collective will of Mopamuro leaders.
Chief Olatunde described Adejola’s emergence as a call to greater responsibility, while Engr. Adegbayo commended the transparent and peaceful conduct of the process, describing it as a triumph of fairness, justice, and equity.
In his acceptance remarks, Adejola expressed gratitude to stakeholders and co-aspirants, describing the consensus as an overwhelming demonstration of unity and trust.
“I receive this decision with deep humility and gratitude. This is not about personal ambition, but about our shared vision for a better Yagba,” he said.
He commended fellow aspirants for their sacrifice and statesmanship, pledging to carry them along as partners in the political journey.
Adejola also assured party members of his commitment to fostering unity within the APC, including reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening the party ahead of the elections.

“This moment places a greater responsibility on me. I will not take this confidence for granted. Together, we will build a stronger, inclusive, and prosperous Yagba,” he added.
He further praised the leadership of Mopamuro lo’kan for prioritising collective interest over individual ambitions.
Adejola is expected to pick up his nomination form on Monday as preparations intensify for the APC primary election, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the consensus arrangement would boost the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
