The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has hailed nurses as critical pillars of healthcare delivery, describing them as unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity continue to transform lives.
Mrs Soludo, who is also the Founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, gave the commendation on Tuesday in a message marking the 2026 International Nurses Day.
International Nurses Day is observed annually on May 12 to commemorate the birth of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, and to recognise the vital contributions of nurses to healthcare systems worldwide.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” underscores the importance of strengthening the nursing workforce to improve global health outcomes.
In her message, Mrs Soludo noted that behind every recovering patient is a committed nurse who often sacrifices sleep and comfort to provide care, reassurance, and emotional support during moments of fear and uncertainty.
According to her, the role of nurses extends far beyond clinical duties, as they bring hope, compassion, and humanity into healthcare and society at large.
She commended the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices of nurses in Anambra State and across Nigeria, noting that their unwavering commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of communities.
