Lagos, Nigeria — Key maritime industry figures, including former Minister of Interior Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, Starzs Group Chairman Mr. Greg Ogbeifun, and Skellas Group CEO Prince Olayiwola Shittu, have confirmed their attendance at the much-anticipated reception for past presidents of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN).
The prestigious event is set to take place this Friday, April 24, at Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos, and is expected to draw influential stakeholders from across the maritime sector. The reception is organized to honor the former presidents of MARAN for their significant contributions to the association and the advancement of maritime journalism in Nigeria.
The reception is poised to be a convergence of prominent figures, including representatives from corporate organizations, government institutions, and industry groups, notably those under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
In a statement, MARAN announced that the gathering would reflect on the legacies of its past presidents, who have been pivotal in shaping the association into a respected voice in the maritime sector. MARAN’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tunde Ayodele, emphasized that the event will serve as a platform to reinforce the collaboration between the media and maritime industry stakeholders, particularly during a time of significant reforms in the sector.
Funsho Olojo, Chairman of the Planning Committee, highlighted the importance of the event, noting that the willingness of industry stakeholders to support the reception underscores its significance. “MARAN has produced individuals who have sacrificed their time, energy, and intellect to make it the foremost beat association in the maritime industry,” Olojo stated.

Founded 38 years ago, MARAN remains a key professional body dedicated to promoting ethical journalism and capacity building within Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sectors. The association’s headquarters, including an International Press Centre (IPC), is located in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Apapa, Lagos.
