The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has affirmed the government’s commitment to backing the initiatives of German Cooperation within the nation.
During a meeting on Thursday in Abuja with a delegation from German Cooperation, spearheaded by the Project Manager of Integrated Approach to Climate Change in Rice Production System in Nigeria, Ozman Altamirano, in Abuja, the Minister expressed his assurance of support.
Balarabe encouraged the delegation to expand their Agroforestry, Rice, Mango, and Banana farming projects from Benue and Nassarawa States to various other regions across the country.
He lauded the German Delegation for providing technical assistance to the Forestry Department of the Ministry to fulfill its objectives.
Balarabe emphasized the significance of Agroforestry systems and innovations as crucial instruments in the battle against climate change and in promoting sustainable agriculture within the nation.
The Minister pledged his participation in the forthcoming series of events organized by German Cooperation in Nigeria.
In his introductory speech, the Project Manager of Integrated Approach to Climate Change in Rice Production System in Nigeria, Mr. Ozman Altamirano, briefed the Minister on the interventions of German Cooperation in Nigeria, particularly in environmental sustainability management.
Ozman highlighted that one of their projects in Benue and Nassarawa States covers over 150,000 hectares of land designated for Rice, Mango, Banana Production, and Agroforestry.
He further elaborated that the subsequent phase of their projects will expand to other regions in the Northern States, primarily focusing on Rice Production and afforestation.
