Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international cooperation and fostering mutual understanding among nations, as participants of Course 34 at the National Defence College (NDC) marked their International Day and Cuisine.
The Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, recently made this known in remarks delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Bukar Kalambe, Director of Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the colourful event held at the College.
Describing the occasion as more than a cultural exhibition, the minister said it represents “a celebration of diversity, friendship, mutual respect and international understanding,” especially in a world grappling with complex security and socio-economic challenges.
He noted that culture remains a powerful instrument of diplomacy, capable of building bridges where formal engagements may fall short. According to him, shared experiences such as cuisine, music, and traditional attire foster deeper human connections and promote goodwill among nations.
The minister also highlighted the strategic role of the National Defence College as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions for training senior military officers, diplomats, intelligence personnel, and public servants. He commended the College for its contributions to national development and its growing reputation as a hub for international collaboration.
“The presence of international participants reflects the confidence of friendly nations in the College and reinforces its role as a platform for fostering enduring diplomatic and strategic relationships,” he said.
Enikanolaiye encouraged participants to sustain the networks built during the programme, noting that such relationships would be critical in addressing future global challenges.
He further expressed appreciation to foreign participants for their continued engagement with Nigeria, stating that their involvement enriches both academic and cultural exchanges within the institution.

The minister further commend the Commandant, directing staff, and participants of Course 34 for organising the event, expressing hope that the spirit of cooperation and friendship demonstrated would endure throughout their professional careers.
The International Day and Cuisine is a flagship event of the National Defence College, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of participating countries while promoting unity and global understanding.
