The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, to embark on distribution of 69 trucks of fertilizer, equivalent to 41,400 bags, to farmers across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, announced during a meeting with stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming distribution that the fertilizer would be distributed free of charge to farmers and other residents in the state.
According to the Chief of Staff, Senator Barau’s distribution of the fertilizer is a significant contribution towards achieving food security in the nation.
He further outlined that the beneficiaries of the fertilizer will span the three senatorial districts in the state: Kano North, Central, and South. Additionally, the distribution will extend to include clerics, traditional leaders, elders, and party leaders, among others.
“Our purpose here today is to disseminate information regarding Senator Barau I Jibrin’s decision to provide 41,400 bags of fertilizer to farmers in Kano State. This donation is entirely free of charge, with no expectation of payment from any farmer.
“As we enter the rainy season in Kano, farmers are in dire need of fertilizer. Therefore, it was decided to distribute 69 trucks of fertilizer across the state’s three senatorial districts, with the distribution set to begin shortly.
“Agriculture plays a pivotal role in our economy, significantly contributing to our GDP. It serves as the backbone of our economy, particularly in Northern Nigeria, which acts as the nation’s primary food source. This is why the decision was made to support farmers throughout the state, aiming for a successful harvest this farming season.
“This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that support will be extended to farmers. We have previously done so in 2023, and we continue this tradition today. Our goal is to achieve food security for our nation, both for our own sustenance and to potentially export to other countries. With divine favor, we shall accomplish this,” he stated.
Extending blessings for a prosperous farming season, he encouraged beneficiaries to leverage this support wisely by reinvesting in their farms, enabling them to sustain themselves and contribute to the nation’s food security goals.
