A food safety expert has called on key stakeholders to brace up in advancing the food safety system in order to prevent early deaths and diseases in the society.
Mrs. Jeff-Agboola Yemisi Adefunke, who a lecturer at the University of Medical sciences, Ondo, a Consultant with University of Missouri on Africa Food Safety Initiative (AFSI) a program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National President of Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria, and the founder of Voice of Women in the Development of Agriculture, made this called on Friday in Abuja.
The National President of Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria further reiterated that food safety helps individuals, the people at home, the industries, the women.
She expressed that the reason why she mentioned women is because food safety is part of the role of women and also the role of individuals in society to advance food safety at home and at every level.
She added Nigeria has many packages that can be used to advance food safety measures, including the incentives, “we also have some tools that we are going to be using in advancing, recently we launched the agricultural practices food regulatory processes for sanitary and phytosanitary group in order to make use of the best tools to use for their regulatory system.
“So these are part of incentives, we have the tools, we have kids, we have training and we also have some other things as laid down by a federal ministry of health and social welfare.”
The expert further commended the federal ministry of health and social welfare for inaugurating four Technical Working Groups for food safety in Nigeria.
