Over 100 diplomatic missions, alongside key international and domestic stakeholders, are set to convene in Abuja for a high-level conference aimed at addressing the growing threat of information warfare to global security and trade stability.
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) disclosed that the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, as well as top security and intelligence officials, policymakers, trade agencies, and civil society organisations, have confirmed participation in the Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference scheduled for May 20, 2026.
The summit, to be held at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will focus on the theme: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said the conference comes at a critical time when Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) is increasingly being deployed to destabilise international relations and disrupt global markets.
He noted that the gathering would provide a strategic platform for stakeholders to examine how coordinated misinformation campaigns, including state-sponsored disinformation, are exacerbating geopolitical tensions and undermining investor confidence.
The conference is taking place against the backdrop of rising global tensions, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has contributed to increasing energy prices and uncertainty in the 2026 global trade outlook.
Organisers emphasised that promoting “collaborative truth” would be key to de-escalating conflicts, noting that unchecked misinformation can heighten tensions and trigger volatility in critical sectors such as energy.
Participants are expected to explore the role of diplomacy, intelligence, and the media in countering disinformation, strengthening transparent information systems, and safeguarding international trade routes from disruption.

With participation from both government and private sector actors, the conference is expected to position Nigeria as a strategic hub for addressing the intersection of global security, information integrity, and economic stability.
