President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement in a sweeping cabinet reshuffle aimed at revitalising economic management and governance.
The decision, conveyed in an official memo signed by George Akume, forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition the administration under its Renewed Hope Agenda. The directive mandates all affected officials to complete handover processes on or before April 23, 2026.
The shake-up comes amid mounting concerns over Edun’s health and reports of broader security considerations, although the Presidency maintained that the restructuring is primarily targeted at improving coordination, efficiency, and service delivery across government institutions.
In a related development, Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development, signalling further adjustments within the federal cabinet.
Akume stated that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), noting that the restructuring process remains ongoing.

He also conveyed the President’s appreciation to Edun and other outgoing officials for their contributions to national development.
