……Inaugural Legislative Open Week Scheduled

The House of Representatives is poised to reconvene for the Second Session (2024/2025) of the 10th Assembly on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
This information was relayed to Honourable Members through an internal memorandum from the Clerk, House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq, on Monday.
It is worth noting that the House had adjourned its sittings on June 11, 2024, marking the conclusion of the First Session, to allow Members of the Green Chamber to partake in the Eid-el-Kabir festivities with their constituents.
Furthermore, the House is preparing to host its inaugural Legislative Open Week, scheduled from Wednesday, July 3, to Friday, July 5, 2024.
The theme of the Open Week, “Enhancing Inclusivity through Citizen Engagement,” aims to facilitate an open parliament and enhance citizens’ involvement in legislative and governance processes. This aligns with Agenda 6 (Inclusivity & Open Parliament) outlined in the Legislative Agenda of the People’s House.
This initiative holds particular significance as Nigeria celebrates 25 years of uninterrupted representative democracy. Thus, it will serve as a platform for both the legislature and citizens to reflect on our democratic journey, the challenges encountered, and the aspirations for the future.
His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has been designated as the Special Guest of Honour for the Legislative Open Week. Similarly, the President of the Senate, H.E. Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, will serve as the Guest of Honour, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, is the Chief Host for the event. All State Governors, members of the Diplomatic Community, stakeholders, and all Nigerians are also encouraged to take part.
