The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in Kaduna State, weeks after he was convicted in absentia and sentenced to 75 years imprisonment over fraud-related charges.
The EFCC confirmed that Mamman was apprehended at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the Rigasa area of Kaduna State during a coordinated operation that also led to the arrest of two other individuals allegedly found in his company.
Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed the development while briefing journalists at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, stating that preliminary findings suggest the former minister had been receiving protection while evading arrest.
“The eagle eye of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will always catch up with you wherever you are hiding,” Olukoyede said, adding that the two individuals arrested alongside Mamman are being investigated for allegedly harbouring a convicted person.
Mamman was convicted on May 7 after the Federal High Court in Abuja found him guilty on all 12 counts filed by the EFCC. Justice James Omotosho sentenced him in absentia to seven years imprisonment on 10 counts, three years on one count, and two years on another, with the sentences to run consecutively.
The court also ordered forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from the former minister, as well as four Abuja properties linked to him. It further directed security agencies to work with Interpol to ensure his arrest, with the sentence effective from the date of apprehension.

Olukoyede described the arrest as a strong signal of the government’s resolve to sustain the anti-corruption campaign, insisting that no one who misappropriates public funds would escape justice.
Mamman, who served as Minister of Power between 2019 and 2021, is currently in EFCC custody as investigations continue.
