Lokoja, Nigeria — A fresh political crisis is brewing within the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho has openly accused Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of alleged manipulation of the party’s primary process ahead of future elections.
In a viral video on Tuesday, Echocho, a prominent APC stakeholder and senator representing Kogi East, declared that the “battle line has been drawn,” alleging that the outcome of recent party arrangements and internal decisions had been predetermined at the Government House.
He claimed that results of the APC primaries were allegedly “written and imposed,” describing such outcomes as illegitimate and unacceptable. The senator insisted that he had remained loyal and supportive of the administration but would no longer stay silent in the face of what he described as political exclusion.
According to him, despite previously stating he had no immediate intention to contest for office, ongoing developments within the party structure had compelled him to reconsider his political stance, insisting he has the constitutional right to participate in the contest.
Echocho further maintained that his political engagements and empowerment initiatives in Kogi East were aimed at strengthening support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and promoting development in the region.
He warned that continued internal conflict within the party could destabilize unity in the state chapter of the APC, stressing that imposed political outcomes would not be accepted by his supporters.
