Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled a coordinated midnight attack by ISWAP terrorists on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori, Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, the attack occurred in the late hours of Saturday, May 9, 2026, extending into the early hours of Sunday, May 10. The terrorists reportedly advanced from the Mandunari axis but were detected early by vigilant troops on duty.
The statement noted that troops immediately launched a well-coordinated spoiling attack, trapping the insurgents in a devastating killing zone. As a result, the attackers were decisively defeated, with no breach recorded in the camp and no loss of military equipment.
Air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, alongside the Nigerian Army Aviation, was swiftly deployed, leading to a synchronized air-land operation that further decimated the fleeing terrorists and ensured the complete failure of the assault.
Subsequent exploitation of the area revealed extensive blood trails, body parts, and destroyed equipment, indicating significant casualties among the insurgents. Troops also recovered several weapons, including a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), two PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, and belts of assorted ammunition, along with other personal items.
The military confirmed that wounded soldiers are in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical care, while ongoing operations are aimed at tracking and neutralizing fleeing terrorists in the surrounding areas.

The statement emphasized that the failed attack underscores the continued operational dominance of Operation HADIN KAI and the resilience of Nigerian troops in the North-East theatre.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to maintain the momentum in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
